Tigers Sweep Doubleheader Against Lady Eagles

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Williams softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-4 in game one and 8-4 in game two.

Game One

The Tigers plated four runs in the third inning to get the scoring started. The Lady Eagles got one run back in the fourth inning when Kaydra Cole hit a RBI single. OBU scored three more in the fifth to push their lead out to 7-1. Alyssa Cordell homered to get things going in the sixth, Karsen Overshine hit a RBI single, and then Krista Jones reached on a fielder's choice that scored a run. 

Angel Gillette got the start and pitched 5.0 innings. She allowed seven runs off eight hits, walked two and struck out six. Maddie Wallace pitched 1.0 inning of relief and allowed one hit. 

Game Two

The Tigers scored a run in the first inning and the Lady Eagles responded with three runs in the second. Naomi Crowley reached on an error that allowed Madison Knight to score, then Breanna Shaffer hit a RBI single to center, and Cordell hit a RBI single. The Tigers plated three of their own in the third, one in the fourth, and then three more in the sixth to take an 8-3 lead. Madison Knight hit a RBI single in the seventh to get a run back for Williams, but that was all. 

Alexis Rubio got the start and pitched 4.0 innings. She allowed five runs off seven hits, walked one and struck out three. Wallace pitched 2.0 innings of relief and gave up three runs off four hits.

The Lady Eagles travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. on Monday, February 13 for a doubleheader against University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
