Gillette's No-Hitter Highlights Lady Eagles' Sweep of Arkansas Baptist

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Angel Gillette threw a no-hitter in the first game of the William' softball doubleheader sweep of the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes on Friday afternoon.

Game One

The Lady Eagles won the first game 8-0 in six innings. It all got started in the first inning when Kaydra Cole hit a 2 RBI single to left field. Then Karsen Overshine hit a RBI single to center to make it 3-0 Lady Eagles in the first inning. Alyssa Cordell knocked home a run in the second, Megan Weis hit a RBI single in the third, Krista Jones hit a RBI sac bunt and Ryleigh Tingle hit a RBI ground in the fifth inning, and Kaylee Wolfe scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 8-0 Lady Eagles. 

Gillette pitched all 6.0 innings for the Lady Eagles and struck out 12 to go with her no-hitter. 

Game Two

The second game was a 6-4 affair won by the Lady Eagles. The Buffaloes scored a run in the first and the Lady Eagles responded with three runs in the home half. Weis and Overshine hit RBI singles, while Wolfe reached on an error that allowed Overshine to score. The Buffaloes tied the game at 3 in the top of the third inning, but again the Williams responded. They plated two run in the third when Overshine hit a RBI double and Wolfe hit a RBI groundout. They added another run inthe fifth when Tingle reached on an error that allowed Laila Byas to score. The Buffaloes attempted a rally in the seventh, but only managed one run. 

Maddie Wallace got the start in the circle and pitched 3.0 innings. She allowed three runs off four hits, walked two and struck out five. Tori Kierbach pitched 4.0 innings in relief and allowed one run off one hit and struck out five. Wallace got credit with the win while Kierbach got a save.

The Lady Eagles continue their homestand on Saturday, Feb. 18 as they host (8) Central Methodist for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
