Lady Eagles Split Saturday Tilt at Gulf Shores Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Williams softball team split their Saturday slate at the Gulf Shores Invitational. They fell to Faulkner 4-2 and defeated Southeastern Baptist 13-5.

Game One

The Lady Eagles got on the board in the first inning when Kaydra Cole hit a RBI sac fly to left field. Faulkner responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Williams tied it up at 2-2 with a run in the fourth when Ryleigh Tingle drew a walk with the bases loaded. Again, Faulkner responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 lead. 

Angel Gillette got the start in the circle for the Lady Eagles and pitched 3.1 innings. She allowed four runs off three hits, walked one and struck out one. Tori Kierbach pitched 2.2 innings of relief and allowed one hit while striking out two. 

Game Two

The Lady Eagle gave up two runs in the top of the second inning, but responded with two runs of their own in the home half of the inning when Laila Byas hit a RBI triple and Naomi Crowley hit a RBI single. Southeastern Baptist retook the lead with a run in the third. Williams' offense exploded with seven runs in the fourth. Byas hit a RBI double, Bianca Pettus hit a RBI single, Megan Weis reached on an error that allowed Pettus to score. Cole hit a 2 RBI single, Alyssa Cordell hit a RBI triple, and Madison Knight reached on an error that allowed Cordell to score. Williams scored four more runs in the fifth to take a 13-5 lead. Cole walked with the bases loaded, Cordell hit a 2 RBI single, and Hannah Stallings hit a RBI single. 

Maddie Wallace pitched all 5.0 innings and allowed five runs off nine hits, walked two and struck out two.

The Lady Eagles will host Christian Brothers for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 14. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
