Lady Eagles Dominate Doubleheader Sweep Over Ecclesia

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - With the rain coming in the afternoon, the Lady Eagles moved up their afternoon doubleheader against Ecclesia to a 9 a.m. start time, but the early start didn't effect them any as they exploded to a 17-3 victory in five innings in the first game and an 8-0 victory in six innings in the second game.

Game One

Ecclesia plated two runs in the top of the first, but the Lady Eagles responded by sending 17 women to the plate in the first inning as they scored 13 runs in the first. They would add a run in the second, a run in the third, and two runs in the fourth en route to a 17-3 run-rule victory. 

Kennedy Johnson went 2-3 at the plate with 5 RBIs to lead the team. Naomi Crowley and Shelby Jones also went 2-3 at the plate, with Crowley collecting one RBI. Karsen Overshine, Kaydra Cole, and Alyssa Cordell all collected 2 RBIs in the game.

Angel Gillette got the start in the circle and pitched 3.0 innings. She allowed three runs off four hits, walked one and struck out two. Morgan Garner pitched 2.0 innings of relief and walked one. 

Game Two

Williams kept the offense going in game two with two runs in the first inning as Overshine and Cordell hit back-to-back RBI singles to the outfield. The Lady Eagles doubled their lead in the third when Cole hit a RBI double to right field and Cordell hit a RBI single to center field. Shelby Jones hit a RBI sac bunt in the fourth to make it a 5-0 lead for Williams. Paige Thomas hit a RBI single in the fifth inning to make it 6-0, and then Maddi Althenthal and Cole hit RBI singles in the sixth to make 8-0 and give the Lady Eagles the run-rule victory. 

Cassidi Doyle pitched all six inning for Williams and allowed two hits while striking out one. 

Up Next

The Lady Eagles open up AMC play on the road as they travel to St. Louis on March 24-25. They will play a doubleheader at UHSP on the 24th and then a doubleheader at Harris-Stowe on the 25th.
