Big Offensive Day Leads Lady Eagles to Sweep Trojans

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams softball team had a big day on offense as they completed a sweep of the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans in two five-inning run-rule games, winning the first game 8-0 and the second game 10-1. With the wins, the Lady Eagles are now 11-17 overall and 2-2 in AMC play.

Game One

The Lady Eagles got on the board early when Shelby Jones scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Williams made it a 3-0 game in the third inning when Kaydra Cole hit a 2-run bomb over the left field wall. The Lady Eagles then plated five runs in the fifth inning to trigger the run-rule: Alyssa Cordell hit a RBI double, Madison Knight hit a RBI single, Kaylee Wolfe hit a RBI double, Karsen Overshine hit a RBI single, and then Cole was walked with the bases loaded. 

Angel Gillette got the start in the circle and pitched all five innings for the Lady Eagles. She allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out eight. 

Game Two

Williams picked up in the second game right where they left off in the first. Overshine hit a RBI sac fly in the first to get the Lady Eagles on the board. In the second, Kennedy Johnson hit a solo shot to center to start the inning, Megan Weis reached on a RBI fielder's choice, Overshine walked with the bases loaded, Cole hit a RBI sac fly, and Cordell hit a RBI single to make it 6-0. In the third inning, Wolfe hit a RBI groundout, Victoria Corker hit a RBI single, and Krista Jones hit a 2 RBI single to make it 10-0 Williams. The Trojans got a run in the fifth, but the game ended as a runner was tagged out trying to score on the same play. 

Tori Kierbach got the start in the circle and pitched all five innings for the Lady Eagles. She allowed one run off five hits and struck out four.

The Lady Eagles travel to St. Louis on Tuesday, April 4 for their makeup games at Health Sciences & Pharmacy. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
