Lady Eagles Dominate in Sweep of Eutectics

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Williams softball team dominated in their doubleheader sweep of the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy Eutectics on Tuesday, winning game one 12-3 and game two 17-4. With the wins, the Lady Eagles are now 13-17 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Game One

Williams came out swinging and scored three runs in the first inning when Megan Weis stole home, Alyssa Cordell hit a RBI groundout, and Kennedy Johnson hit a RBI single. The Eutectics immediately responded with three runs of their own to tie the game. The Lady Eagles plated two runs in the third inning when Cordell hit a RBI double and Madison Knight hit a RBI single. They added two more in the fifth when Johnson and Knight hit back-to-back RBI doubles. In the sixth inning, Bailey Crump reached on an error that allowed Weis to score, Kaydra Cole hit a RBI sac fly, and Johnson hit a RBI single to make it 10-3. Finally, in the seventh inning, Cole hit a RBI triple and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-3. 

Angel Gillette got the start in the circle and pitched 5.0 innings. She allowed three runs off four hits, walked two and struck out six. Tori Kierbach pitched 2.0 innings of relief, allowing three hits and striking out two. 

Game Two

Again, the Lady Eagles came out swinging, as they scored seven runs in the first inning. They added a run in the fourth to make it 8-0, buth the Eutectics got the run back in the home half of the inning. Then in the fifth the Lady Eagles plated nine runs, while the Eutectics scored three in the bottom half to make the final score 17-4.

Johnson led the team by going 2-2 with 3 RBIs. Knight and Krista Jones both collected 2 RBIs, while Weis, Laila Byas, Crump, Rylee Boshell, Paige Thomas, Naomi Crowley, and Kaylee Wolfe all notched one RBI. 

Morgan Garner pitched all 5.0 innings for the Lady Eagles. She allowed four runs off four hits, walked four and struck out five.

The Lady Eagles will remain in St. Louis for tomorrow and play doubleheader against Harris-Stowe State. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
