Lady Eagles Earn Pair of Run-Rule Victories Over Harris-Stowe

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Williams softball team earned a pair of run-rule victories on Wednesday over Harris-Stowe State, taking game one 24-5 in five innings and game two 10-1 in five innings. With the wins, the Lady Eagles are now 15-17 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Game One

The Lady Eagles came ready to play against the Hornets, scoring five runs in the first inning and seven in the second. HSSU was able to get two runs back in the second, but the Lady Eagles continued to pile one with six more in the third. HSSU plated a run in the third. Williams plated three in both the fourth and fifth innings, while HSSU was able to get two in the fourth to bring the final score to 24-5. 

Kaydra Cole led the squard with 5 RBIs, Karsen Overshine had 4, Maddi Altenthal, Alyssa Cordell, and Kaylee Wolfe all had 3. Kennedy Johnson and Rylee Boshell both collected 2 RBIs, while Megan Weis and Naomi Crowley had one. 

Maddie Wallace pitched all five innings for the Lady Eagles. She allowed five runs off 11 hits, walked one and struck out four. 

Game Two

The Lady Eagles continued to swing hot bats in the second game. They plated three runs in the first, two in the second and third innings, and three in the fifth. The lone run for Harris-Stowe came in the first inning. 

Paige Thomas led the team with 4 RBIs. Overshine and Crowley both had two, and Altenthal had one. 

Cassidi Doyle pitched all five innings for the Lady Eagles. She allowed one run off four hits, walked one and struck out eight.

The Lady Eagles return to Walnut Ridge this weekend to host a pair of doubleheaders. They will host AMC newcomers Cottey College on Friday starting at 2 p.m. and then William Woods on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
