Lady Eagles Swept By Stephens

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Williams softball team was swept in their doubleheader against the Stephens Stars on Thursday, falling in game one 3-2 and 12-4 in five innings in game two. The Lady Eagles are now 18-22 overall and 8-8 overall.

Game One

The Stars took a quick lead with 2 runs scored in the second. The Lady Eagles were able to get a run back in the third inning when Kaylee Wolfe hit a RBI groundout, but the Stars got that run right back in the bottom half of the inning. Williams made it a 3-2 game in the sixth inning when Alyssa Cordell reached on an error that allowed Megan Weis to score, but that was all they could rally to get. 

Angel Gillette got the start and pitched 3.0 innings for the Lady Eagles. She allowed three runs off five hits, walked two and struck out four. Maddie Wallace pitched 3.0 innings of relief and allowed three hits while striking out one. 

Game Two

The second game saw the Lady Eagles run-ruled in five innings. The Stars plated three runs in the first, but the Lady Eagles got a run in the second Kennedy Johnson hit a RBI double. Williams took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the third as Karsen Overshine and Cordell hit RBI singles and then Overshine eventually scored on a wild pitch. However, the lead was short-lived as the Stars plated four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-4 lead. They added to their lead with one run in the fourth and four in the fifth to force a run-rule victory. 

Tori Kierbach got the start and pitched 3.0 innings. She allowed seven runs off 10 hits and struck out three. Cassidi Doyle pitched 1.2 innings of relief and allowed five runs off six hits and struck out three.

The Lady Eagles will stay in Columbia, Mo. and take on Columbia College in a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
