Lady Eagles Split Doubleheader With Columbia Cougars

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Williams softball team split their Friday doubleheader with the Columbia College Cougars, falling in game one 6-5 and winning game two 8-0. The Lady Eagles made a bit of history with their games today as they surpassed the former team record for stolen bases in a season of 95 with nine stolen bases on the day to give them 104 for the season. 

Game One

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first and one run in the second. The Lady Eagles got a run back in the third as Kaydra Cole hit a RBI single. They took the lead a 4-3 lead with three runs in the fifth as Karsen Overshine hit a 2 RBI single and Alyssa Cordell reached on an error that allowed Naomi Crowley to score. Columbia quickly retook the lead back with three runs of their own in the home half of the fifth. Williams scored a run in the sixth to make a 6-5 game as Megan Weis hit a RBI single, but that was all. 

Morgan Garner got the start and pitched 4.0 innings. She allowed six runs off six hits, walked one and struck out one. Alexis Rubio pitched 2.0 innings of relief, allowing one hit and walking one. 

Game Two

The second game was all Lady Eagles as they outscored the Cougars 8-0. They plated two run in the first as Cole hit a RBI double and Cordell hit a RBI single. Weis hit a RBI single in the second to make it 3-0. Laila Byas scored on an error in the fourth. In the fifth, Overshine hit a RBI single, Maddi Altenthal scored on a wild pitch, and Cordell scored on an error. Kennedy Johnson hit a RBI single in the seventh to make it 8-0 Lady Eagles. 

Angel Gillette pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles. She allowed four hits and struck out seven.

The Lady Eagles return to Walnut Ridge and welcome Freed-Hardeman for a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, April 21. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
