Lady Eagles Go 1-1 on the First Day of AMC Softball Tournament

The Williams Baptist University softball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the American Midwest Conference Championship tournament, losing its first game to Central Baptist College 5-4, but bouncing back for a 21-10 victory over Stephens College.

With the victory over Stephens, the Eagles (19-30) will play again on Tuesday, May 3 at 2 p.m. against the loser of the morning Columbia vs. Cottey College matchup. 

In the victory over Stephens, the Eagles looked to be firmly in control before the Stars rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 10-10.

WBU responded in a big way in the top of the eighth by scoring 11 runs Kaylee Wolfe started off the rally with a 2-run double and Megan Weis scored on a wild pitch to go up 13-10.

Karsen Overshine broke things open with a 3-run home run and Alyssa Cordell drove in a run with an RBI single. Victoria Corker plated a pair of runs with a triple and Shelby Jones rounded out the inning by reaching on an error that allowed Corker to score to complete the 11-run inning.

Overshine led the way at the plate for the Eagles by going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Cordell added three hits and three RBIs. Wolfe went 3-for-4 with two RIBs, while Corker and Rylee Boshell each drove in two runs.

In game one against CBC, WBU fell behind 3-1 after three innings, but scored three in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 advantage. 

In the frame, Corker brought in a run when she reached on a fielder's choice, and Wolfe provided an RBI groundout to tie the game at 3-3. Jones later stole second and forced an errant throw from the Mustangs' catcher that allowed Corker to score. 

Williams maintained its advantage until the bottom of the sixth when CBC's Jordyn Frederic doubled in two runs to give the Mustangs a 5-4 lead they would not surrender.
