Lady Eagles Open 2024 Campaign With Dominating Victories

IRVING, Texas (2/9/24) - The Williams Baptist University women's softball team opened its 2024 campaign with a 10-2 and followed with a 15-2 victory over the University of Dallas Friday afternoon.

In game one the Lady Eagles jumped out in the top of the second inning and never looked back when Natalia Watkins doubled in a run and Paige Thomas followed with another double to plate Watkins to give WBU the early advantage.

Watkins and Thomas were two of six Williams' players to record at least two hits in the game.

WBU added to its lead with runs in the third and fourth innings off the bats of Rylee Boshell and Kennedy Johnson and then broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Johnson also drove in a pair of runs in the seventh inning and had three RBIs in game one.

Bailey Crump drove in a run when she reached on an error, which allowed Victoria Corker to score and Madison Knight followed with a bases loaded double to left center to clear the bases to put the Lady Eagles ahead 8-1.

Knight finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Freshman Emberlin Caldwell tossed six strong innings in her collegiate debut, yielding just one earned run on two hits and six strikeouts.

Williams continued to stay at the plate and scored in the first four innings, including a seven-run fourth inning that helped lift the Lady Eagles to a 15-2 run-rule win.

Johnson picked up where she left off with an RBI single in the first inning and Kaylee Wolfe had a bases loaded double to give Williams an early 4-0 advantage.

Maddi Althenthal and Johnson pushed the lead to 7-1 in the second inning and Kaelyn Gooch hit the first home run of the season for WBU with a shot over the fence in left field to go up 8-1.

The Lady Eagles helped put the game completely out of reach with a seven-run explosion in the fourth inning that included RBI singles from Gooch, Altenthal and Knight, a bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Megan Petty and a sacrifice fly from Wolfe.

Saturday's matchups against Bethany (Kan.) and Dallas Christian were canceled due to threat of rain in the Dallas area on Saturday.

Williams will host Louisiana Christian Feb. 13 at home. First pitch is set for Noon.
