WBU Falls to Stillman in Doubleheader Softball Matchup

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (3/5/24) - The Williams Baptist softball team fell to Stillman College 3-0 and 6-2 in a non-conference matchup on Monday afternoon.

In game one the Tigers used a pair of solo home runs in the third inning to build an early advantage and then kept the Lady Eagles bats quiet to earn victory.

WBU scattered three hits in the game and saw its only two scoring chances come in the first and fifth innings. Megan Petty reached on a hit-by-pitch and then stole second, but she was left stranded there.

Krista Jones singled in the fifth inning and then stole second, but she too was left stranded without advancing.

In game two, Stillman jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning, but WBU responded with two runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Natalia Watkins ledoff the inning with a walk and then moved into scoring position with a steal of second base. Petty drove her in with an RBI single and then later scored on a sacrifice fly from Kennedy Johnson

The Lions added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead to 6-2 and Williams could not rally in the top of the seventh.

Williams Baptist will travel to Springfield, Mo., Friday March 8 to take on Central Methodist in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
