Lady Eagles Fall on the Road to #4 Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. (3/8/24) – The Williams Baptist University softball team dropped a road doubleheader against #4 Central Methodist by the final scores of 6-2 and 10-1.

Game one was all Central Methodist early, with CMU striking first with a run in the bottom of the first inning off of a groundout.  CMU plated two more in the second on a double and a walk.

Williams got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning with Kaylee Wolfe coming home on a wild pitch.  Laila Byas drove in Victoria Corker right after to bring the score to 6-2.

Maddie Wallace shut down Central Methodist in relief, allowing only two hits in two innings of work, but the score remained 6-2 to hand WBU a loss in game one.

The Lady Eagles responded to the loss by quickly taking the lead in game two with Megan Petty scoring on an error in the top of the first.

WBU held the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second when Central Methodist found two runs off of an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly.

The Lady Eagles held the game close until CMU's offense caught fire and scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-1 lead that would hold true through the end of the contest.

The losses drop Williams to an 11-7 mark on the season.  The team will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, March 8 against Evangel in Springfield, Mo.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 PM.
