WBU Splits Saturday Doubleheader With Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (3/9/24) – The Williams Baptist University softball team split its Saturday doubleheader with Evangel by the final scores of 4-1 and 1-0.

The Lady Eagles struck quickly in game one with Natalia Watkins scoring on an error in the top of the first.  Kaylee Wolfe would add the team's second run with an RBI single later in the inning, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Evangel responded in the bottom half of the inning by scoring a run on a double play to cut the WBU lead in half.

Laila Byas came through in the top of the fourth by scoring on an error to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.  Victoria Corker came home in the top of the fifth to give Williams another insurance run.

Emberlin Caldwell shut down Evangel in the circle, allowing only one earned run in seven innings with no walks to give the Eagles the win.

Morgan Garner turned in a solid pitching performance in game two, allowing only one earned run on three hits in six innings.

Despite Garner's strong start, the WBU offense struggled throughout the contest, failing to tally a hit until the seventh inning and falling short 1-0.

The split moves the Eagles to 12-8 on the season.  WBU will pick back up at home against Bethel on Saturday, March 23.  First pitch is slated for 2 PM.
