WBU Falls to Freed-Hardeman in Doubleheader

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/26/24) - The Williams Baptist softball dropped a non-conference softball doubleheader to Freed-Hardeman 5-2 and 8-0 Tuesday afternoon at the WBU Softball Field.

The Lions jumped to a 3-0 in the first inning with three RBI singles and added to their lead in the third and fifth innings to take a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles scored a run in the sixth inning when Rylee Boshell drove in Maddi Altenthal on an RBI single and Madison Knight added another run in the seventh inning with a single down the left field line that brought in Naomi Boyer.

However, the Lady Eagles failed to rally any further as the Lions took the opener.

In game two, Freed-Hardeman scored a run in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead.

Williams had a scoring chance in the bottom of the first inning when it had runners on first and second with 1-out, but a strikeout and groundout ended the threat.

From that point, the WBU bats went cold as it had just four reach base for the remainder of the game.

The Lions added to their lead with a 3-run fifth inning, another run in the sixth and a 2-run seventh inning.

Williams Baptist opens American Midwest Conference Friday, March 29 in St. Louis, Mo., at Harris-Stowe. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
