Lady Eagles Vanquish Buccaneers in Midweek Contest

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (4/2/24) – The Williams Baptist University softball team defeated Christian Brothers University in a midweek doubleheader by the final scores of 4-3 and 5-3.

After being put in a 1-0 hole after the first inning, Natalia Watkins tied the ballgame by coming home on a fielder's choice in the top of the second.  Later in the inning, Maddi Altenthal came home on an error by the third baseman to give the Eagles a one-run advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Kaylee Wolfe extended the WBU lead in a big way by sending a two-run shot over the wall in left-center field.

WBU held the 4-1 lead until the bottom of the seventh when CBU made it interesting with a 2-run homer of its own.  Morgan Garner held the line, not allowing another Buccaneer run in the inning to give Williams a 4-3 win in game one.

Williams hit the ground running in game two, plating three runs in the top of the first, powered by a 2-run triple from Natalia Watkins.  

CBU managed to cut the lead to one run with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, but failed to bring any more runs across.

Watkins provided some insurance in the top of the seventh with an RBI double down the left field line that brought home Laila ByasKennedy Johnson added another run by driving in Watkins with an RBI single to right field.

Christian Brothers put up one more run in the bottom of the seventh, but fell short of the Lady Eagles, giving WBU its sixth straight winner.

The wins improve WBU to 21-11 on the year, surpassing the win total from a year ago.

The Lady Eagles will be back home this Friday, April 5 when the team hosts American Midwest Conference foe Missouri Baptist.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 PM at the WBU Softball Field.
