Shoebottom, Caldwell Take Home Honors at AMC Banquet

Sophomore shortstop Madyson Shoebottom was named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Year and pitcher Emberlin Caldwell was named the league's Freshman of the Year in an awards ceremony held Monday night in Columbia, Mo., on the eve of the AMC Championship tournament. 

Shoebottom and Caldwell led a group of seven Lady Eagles who collected hardware at the ceremony. 

Shoebottom, who was also a First Team All-Conference and Gold Glove honoree, finished third in the AMC with a .434 batting average and was also fourth in the league with 47 RBIs. She was second on the Lady Eagles' team with nine home runs and added 36 runs scored and two stolen bases. 

Caldwell, who was also a First Team All-Conference and Gold Glove selection, led the league with a 17-7 overall record and finished one strikeout away from the top spot in the AMC with 121 strikeouts. She walked just 33 batters in 129.2 innings on the year and tossed 12 complete games, three shutouts. 

Also earning First-Team All-Conference recognition were Maddi Alenthal and Morgan Garner. Alenthal finished with a .403 batting average, 25 runs scored, 21 stolen bases and 19 RBIs, while Garner went 13-8 inside the circle with two saves in 130.2 innings pitched. She recorded 70 strikeouts and walked just 19. 

Kennedy Johnson and Natalia Watkins each earned Second Team All-Conference recognition, while Kaylee Wolfe was a Third Team All-Conference selection.

Johnson hit a team-leading 10 home runs to go along with a .362 batting average and 41 RBIs, while Watkins had 28 stolen bases with 40 runs scored and a .348 battings average. Wolfe drove in 24 RBIs and scored 24 runs with a .338 batting average and four stolen bases. 

Rounding out the awards for the Lady Eagles was Laila Byas who won a Gold Glove for her play in left field and Naomi Boyer was named to the Champions of Character Team, which honors student-athletes that best exemplifies the NAIA Five Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, Integrity and Servant Leadership.
