WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/25/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team took a doubleheader sweep over Hendrix by the final scores of 10-0 and 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon from the WBU Softball Field.
The Lady Eagles throttled the Warriors in game one with a 10-0 run-rule victory in five innings.
Ashlyn Michael opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. Kaelyn Gooch added another run in the frame with an RBI single to put WBU up 4-0 through one.
Williams added five more in the second inning and one more in the fourth with Natalia Watkins scoring on an error.
Emberlin Caldwell earned her third win of the season after three scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Brianna McPike tossed the final two innings without letting up a run to secure the 10-0 victory.
Game two saw a 3-2 pitchers duel that WBU came out on top of after nine innings.
Jadyn Kobrin drove in the first run of the ballgame with a single in the bottom of the second. After three scoreless innings, Hendrix tied the game with a bases loaded single by Tori Maldonado. Morgan Garner worked out of the jam without any further damage to keep the game tied at one.
McKenna Bittle entered the game and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to send the game to extras.
In the eighth, Hendrix scored the go-ahead run and loaded the bases on an RBI single. Bittle worked out of trouble to keep the game tied, and WBU tied the game back at two runs a piece with an RBI double from Kaylee Wolfe.
In the bottom of the ninth, Bittle pinch ran at second base to begin the inning. Bittle tagged up on a Natalia Watkins flyout to move to third, then scored on a pop out to the second baseman from Kaelyn Gooch to take the walk-off win.
The wins move WBU to 6-0 overall on the season. The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 28 against Lindsey Wilson for the first two games of the FHU Classic in Henderson, Tenn. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
