Strong Pitching Drives WBU to Sweep of Buccaneers

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/18/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team rode strong pitching performances to a doubleheader sweep of Christian Brothers by the final scores of 4-1 and 5-1 at the WBU Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Emberlin Caldwell dominated in the circle in game one as the sophomore took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning.  Caldwell shut down the Bucs offense until a lead-off single in the top of the seventh.

The sophomore tossed all seven innings with two hits, one run, one walk, and six strikeouts.  Caldwell also earned her 200th career strikeout in the contest.

The Lady Eagles got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of an RBI double from Natalia Watkins.  WBU added on in the fourth with two runs coming home on an error and an RBI single from Rylee Boshell to go up 4-0.

Williams continued to dominate in the circle in game two as Morgan Garner had a strong start, going 5.0 innings with only one earned run and two strikeouts.  McKenna Bittle tossed two scoreless innings in relief, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

Kaylee Wolfe scored on an error in the bottom of the first to put WBU on top 1-0.

CBU tied the game with an RBI single from Brynley DeLancey in the top of the fifth.  The Bucs threatened to take the lead in the frame, but Garner induced two pop ups on the infield to end the frame and keep the score tied 1-1.

Williams took back the lead on a two-run triple from Natalia Watkins in the bottom of the fifth inning to go back in front 3-1.  Madyson Busselle brought Watkins home on an RBI single, and Rylee Boshell plated Busselle with a double to put the Lady Eagles ahead 5-1.

McKenna Bittle shut down the Bucs in the final two innings to secure the doubleheader sweep.

The wins move Williams 15-6 overall on the season.  Next, the Lady Eagles will begin American Midwest Conference play on the road against Mission on Friday, Mar. 21.  First pitch of game one against the Patriots is set for 2 p.m. from Springfield, Mo.
