
Williams Fends Off UHSP in Doubleheader Sweep
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (4/8/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept UHSP in American Midwest Conference action on Tuesday afternoon by the final scores of 8-7 and 13-3.
Madyson Busselle led the way for the Eagles in game one, going 3-for-4 with four RBI's and two runs scored. Kaelyn Gooch also went 2-for-2 with two RBI's.
Busselle gave WBU its first lead of the game with a three-run homer in the top of the first. The Lady Eagles plated three more runs in the second to go up 6-0 through two.
After scoring twice in the third, the Eutectics stormed back with a five-run rally in the fourth inning. An RBI single from Alicia Kimble put UHSP on top 7-6 in the fourth inning.
Kaelyn Gooch broke the Eagles offensive drought with an RBI double in the sixth to tie the game at 7-7. After walking two batters, McKenna Bittle fought back to shut down the Eutectics and keep the score tied.
In the top of the seventh, WBU cashed in on a lead-off single from Busselle with a long RBI single from Rylee Boshell to go up 8-7.
Two walks placed the winning run on base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for the Eutectics, but Bittle ended the threat with a strikeout to secure the 8-7 victory.
UHSP got on the board first in game two on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first, then added another run in the second on an RBI single from Hunter Noto.
Breann Thresher cut the lead to one with an RBI triple in the top of the fourth, and Rylee Boshell brought Thresher home to tie the game. The Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Kaelyn Gooch scored on an error.
The Eutectics manufactured a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. With one out and the game-winning run on second, Morgan Garner shut down UHSP to send the game to extra innings.
After the stand from Garner in the seventh, the WBU offense exploded in the eighth. Bailey Crump broke the tie by drawing a bases-loaded walk, then Brooke Scott doubled to plate two more. Williams finished the inning with 10 runs on nine hits to take a 13-3 lead. Garner retired the final three UHSP batters in order to secure the extra-inning victory.
Garner took the win in the circle after tossing eight innings on only two earned runs. Natalia Watkins and Bailey Crump led the way on offense with three RBI's each.
The wins move WBU to 24-10 overall and 8-4 in conference play. The Eagles will return home on Friday, Apr. 11 to face No. 15 Missouri Baptist in a doubleheader. First pitch against the Spartans is set for 2 p.m. from the WBU Softball Field.
