Taylor Powers Lady Eagles Over Baptist Bible

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/28/23) - Newcomer Charmen Taylor poured in 29 points and collected 13 rebounds as the Williams Baptist women's basketball team defeated Baptist Bible 88-75 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at the Southerland-Mabee Center.

Kaylee Clark joined Taylor in double-figures with 21 points, while point guard Taylor Hooten added 10 points and eight rebounds to pace the Eagles on the afternoon.

WBU held a five-point edge at 38-33 at the break, but exploded for 33 points in the third quarter to pull away. Taylor led the charge in the period by scoring 14 points and pulling down five boards, while Hooten scored seven of her 10 points in the frame.

The Eagles shot a blistering 56.5 percent (13-23) from the field and controlled the pace defensively by forcing Baptist Bible into seven turnovers in the stanza.

Clark helped Williams take a 19-17 lead after the first quarter with 10 points in the frame. The Eagles led by as many as eight, but could not shake the Lady Patriots as the gap closed near the end of the frame. WBU held its lead throughout the second quarter, but still struggled to pull away as both teams struggled to knock down field goals in the period.

WBU now stands at 6-1 on the season and will open American Midwest Conference play Saturday, Dec. 2 at Columbia. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Arena of Southwell Complex.
