Lady Eagles Fall at Home to Evangel

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (12/14/23) - The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team fell to Evangel University 75-52 in a non-conference matchup Thursday afternoon at the Southerland-Mabee Center. 

Charmen Taylor led WBU with 14 points and three steals, while Kaylee Clark finished in double-figures with 12. Sara Crowe added eight rebounds, while Taylor Hooten grabbed seven boards. 

The Eagles trailed 30-27 at the halftime break, but the Valor exploded for 25 points in the third quarter and led 52-36 with a 1:29 to go in the frame. WBU closed on a run to get within 10 and took momentum into the fourth quarter. Clark helped close the gap to 55-50 early in the period, but the Valor took the momentum back Kate Gilbert converted an and-1 opportunity and quickly pushed the lead back to double-digits.

Williams struggled to knock down shots and made just 28.6 percent of its field goal attempts, while Evangel knocked down 40 percent of attempts WBU also shot just 58.8 percent from the free throw line and was outrebounded 58-38 on the boards. 

WBU returns to action Dec. 28 at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
