WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/11/25) - Carmen Taylor scored 26 points and Kaylee Clark added 20 as the Williams Baptist women's basketball team defeated Harris-Stowe State 95-51 Thursday evening at the Southerland-Mabee Center.
Taylor and Clark led an offensive attack that shot 47.7 percent from the field. Clark scored 17 points and knocked down 5-of-8 shots from beyond the arc as the Eagles pulled away from the Lady Hornets. Taylor also added six steals and five assists, while her sister Charmen Taylor narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Eagles outscored the Lady Hornets 24-6 in the second period. Carmen Taylor poured in eight points in the frame as the Eagles forced HSSU into eight turnovers. The Lady Hornets were just 2-of-13 from the field and an 11-0 run from the Eagles pushed their advantage to 38-19 with under three minutes left in the half.
WBU continued to shoot well in the second half behind the efforts of Clark in the third quarter. Williams outscored Harris-Stowe 32-19 in the stanza and shot a blistering 61.1 percent from the field to put them up 75-38 at the end of the third quarter.
With the win, Williams improved to 10-3 and 3-1 in the American Midwest Conference and will return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 13 to take on Hannibal-LaGrange at 1 p.m. in the SMC.
