Lady Eagles Overcome Halftime Deficit to Beat Eutectics

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (1/20/24) - The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team won in comeback fashion over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy by the final score of 94-75.

Kaylee Clark led the team in points scored with 27. The Taylor Twins put up another impressive performance with Charmen putting up 22 points, and Carmen chipping in 20. Charmen Taylor also paced the team in rebounds, snagging nine boards in the contest. Taylor Hooten came away with six assists.

As a team, the Lady Eagles shot 50.7 percent from the field, including 38.9 percent from three-point range.  The Lady Eagles out-rebounded UHSP 40-37, and scored 42 points in the paint.

After falling to a 16 point deficit at halftime, the Lady Eagles opened the third quarter on a 16-4 run capped off by two Nijah Moore free throws to cut the lead to four.  WBU managed to take the lead on two Charmen Taylor free throws with 51 seconds left in the third quarter, and ended the period up 66-62 after Taylor Hooten added a trey at the buzzer.

After outsourcing UHSP 32-12 in the third quarter, the Lady Eagles kept the momentum through the end of the game. An 11-0 run punctuated by a Charmen Taylor layup with 4:41 left would all but seal the game in favor of WBU.

The Lady Eagles defense stepped up in the second half, holding UHSP to 25.1 percent shooting from the field.

UHSP came out of the gate hot, shooting 69.2 percent from the field in the first quarter.  Grace Beyer ended the first half with 33 points.

The win moves WBU to 12-4 on the year and 5-2 in conference play. The Lady Eagles now have sole possession of third place in the American Midwest Conference standings.

Next, the Lady Eagles will take on Missouri Baptist on Thursday, Jan. 25 at home in the Southerland-Mabee Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
