Lady Eagles Pull Away From William Woods

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/27/24) - The Williams Baptist women's basketball team used a second quarter offensive explosion to race past William Woods 82-48 Saturday afternoon at the Southerland-Mabee Center. 

The Eagles did most of their damage in the second quarter when they outscored Williams Woods 27-4. The squad shot a blistering 55 percent (11-of-20) from the field and knocked down 42.9 percent (3-of-7) of its 3-point attempts.

Kaylee Clark led the charge in the first half, scoring 23 of the Eagles' 44 points in the half. Nijah Moore also finished in double-figures with 10 in the first half, while Carmen Taylor dished out four assists and four assists at the break. 

Clark finished the afternoon with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including three, 3-pointers. Carmen Taylor had 14 points, five assists and four steals, while Moore finished with 12 points. 

WBU dominated in the paint, outscoring the Owls 38-10. Clark and the Taylor twins found success on their dribble-drive sets and also took advantage of strong effort from beyond the arc as the trio combined for seven of WBU's nine 3-pointers on the day. 

Williams also took care of the ball on the offensive end, limiting itself to just 12 turnovers, while forcing Williams Woods into 17 errors, which it converted 13 points off turnovers. 

With the victory Williams Baptist improves to 14-4 and 7-2 in the American Midwest Conference. The team returns action Thursday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 against Cottey College.
