WBU Cruises by Hannibal-LaGrange for Seventh Straight Win

HANNIBAL, Mo. (2/10/24) - The Williams Baptist women's basketball team captured its seventh straight victory with a 85-46 decision over Hannibal-LaGrange Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Sports Complex. 

The Lady Eagles never trailed in the game as they kept pace for the top spot in the American Midwest Conference. The win improved the squad to 18-4 overall on the year and 11-2 in the AMC standings as they remain a game behind Stephens for the top spot in the standings. 

Taylor Hooten led Williams with 18 points, four steals and three assists, while Carmen Taylor had 17 points and seven assists. Kaylee Clark finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists. 

The Lady Eagles outscored the Trojan 21-5 in the first quarter, which included a 9-2 run to start the game. Williams shot 52.9 percent (9-of-17) in the first quarter, while holding Hannibal to just 14.3 percent (2-of-14). 

The Eagles continued to shoot well in the second quarter and built out their lead to 39-22 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, WBU went up 51-27 after a 3-pointer by Taylor and continued to stretch the lead out to 66-33 on a '3' by Hooten as time expired in the period.

Williams Baptist finished after 13-of-39 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc and dished out 22 assists on 32 made field goal attempts. The team also took care of the basketball, limiting itself to just 13 turnovers, while forcing 22 on the defensive end. 

The Lady Eagles prepare for a three-game week as they return to the Southerland-Mabee Center to take on Central Baptist College Tuesday, Feb. 13. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
