WBU’s Late Surge Falls Short In Loss to Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (2/22/24) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team dropped a road contest against Missouri Baptist by the final score of 83-75 on Friday night.

The Taylor twins led the charge in scoring in the ballgame, with Carmen and Charmen putting up 21 and 17, respectively.  Charmen also led the team in rebounds with 12 boards on the night.  Charmen Taylor, Taylor Hooten, and Kaylee Clark dished out three assists each.

WBU shot 39.4 percent from the field as a team.  The Lady Eagles stole 23 points off of turnovers and had 18 second chance points.

The Lady Eagles got off to a hot start in the first quarter, beginning the game up 11-5 through the first 6 minutes.  WBU took a 19-15 lead into the quarter break.

The Spartans' offense woke up in the second quarter, as Missouri Baptist opened the quarter with a 14-0 run to take a 28-21 lead with five minutes left in the first half.  The Lady Eagles fought back with three layups from Carmen Taylor at the end of the quarter to send the Eagles into halftime down 40-38.

Missouri Baptist gained the momentum again in the third quarter, out-scoring WBU 21-14 to take a nine point lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Eagles would not go quietly in the fourth.  After starting down nine points, WBU rode a 10-2 run capped off by a Kaylee Clark free throw to bring the game within two.  Charmen Taylor tied the game with a jump shot with 4:23 left in the ballgame.

The Lady Eagles held it close in the fourth until a 9-1 Spartan run ended the game to hand Williams its third conference loss of the season.

The loss snaps a 10-game winning streak for the Lady Eagles and drops the team to 21-5 overall and 14-3 in conference play.  The Lady Eagles look to bounce back in the final regular season matchup on the road against William Woods in Fulton, Mo. on Saturday, Feb. 24.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 P.M.
