Lady Eagles Take Care of Owls in Regular Season Finale
FULTON, Mo. (2/24/24) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team defeated William Woods by the final score of 77-58 in the final game of the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday.
Kaylee Clark led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 17 points. Sara Crowe put up 15 on a 6-for-11 clip, and Monica Horne also finished in double digits with 10. Horne also led the team in rebounds with 10 boards on the game to finish with a double-double.
WBU shot 37.1 percent from the field as a team, and cashed 43.8 percent of three-point attempts. The Lady Eagles out-rebounded William Woods 59-39, and scored 26 points off of turnovers. The Lady Eagles also outscored the Owls in the paint 34-16.
The Lady Eagles took a quick lead in the ballgame courtesy of an 8-2 run over the first two and a half minutes, led by four points from Charmen Taylor. Later in the first, Kaylee Clark powered an 11-3 run with five points to send WBU into the quarter break up 23-13.
In the second quarter, WBU locked down on defense, allowing the Owls only eight points, taking a 42-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Eagles continued the offensive assault in the third quarter when Sara Crowe's layup pushed WBU's lead to 61-29, its largest of the night, with 3:25 left in the third quarter.
Despite being outscored 21-15 in the fourth quarter, WBU walked out of the regular season finale with a 77-58 victory.
The win pushes the Lady Eagles to a 22-5 record on the season and 15-3 in conference play, the team's best mark since the 1992-93 national championship season.
The Lady Eagles will await word on their opponent in the first round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament.
