
Taylor Joins 1,000 Point Club as Eagles Down Patriots at Home
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/11/25) – Carmen Taylor scored her 1,000th point as an Eagle as the Williams Baptist University women's basketball team defeated Mission 90-78 inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Tuesday night.
With 11 points against Mission, Taylor became the seventh member of the 1,000 point club at Williams. She is the first Eagle to accomplish the feat in only two seasons at WBU.
Kaylee Isaacs set a new season-high for herself with 35 points on 15-for-26 shooting from the floor. Isaacs also tied Jessica Shepard for the most made three-pointers in a career at 192 after hitting two against Mission.
Charmen Taylor scored 16 points on 6-for-12 from the field, and Monica Horne added on 13 on 4-for-8 shooting. Charmen Taylor and Kaylee Isaacs both finished with double-doubles, as Isaacs led the way with 14 rebounds and Taylor collected 11.
As a team, WBU went 36-for-80 (45.0 percent) from the field while holding Mission to only 38.5 percent shooting. The Lady Eagles struggled from beyond the arc at only 3-for-13 on triples, but dominated down low with 62 points in the paint. Williams won the rebound battle 58-37.
Mission scored 12 unanswered points to take a 12-4 lead with 4 minutes to play in the first quarter. The Patriots forced seven Eagle turnovers and shot 45.0 percent from the field in the period to finish on an 11-2 run and lead 25-14 at the quarter break.
The Lady Eagles flipped the script in the second quarter, as WBU began the stanza on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 25-25. Charmen Taylor gave WBU a 30-28 lead on a layup. Carmen Taylor's two free throws at the end of the quarter put Williams up 48-34 at halftime. The Lady Eagles outscored Mission 34-9 in the second quarter, shooting a blistering 59.1 percent from the field and holding Mission to just three field goals.
Williams continued to dominate in the third, allowing only four Patriot field goals to take a 71-48 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The Patriots fought back in the fourth quarter, out-scoring WBU 22-9 through the first five minutes to cut the Eagle lead to nine. A Heaven Shockley layup made it a five-point game with a minute and a half left to play, but Monica Horne and Charmen Taylor combined for a 7-0 run to close the game.
The win gives WBU its 16th consecutive victory as the team moves to 21-3 overall and 17-1 in conference play on the season. The Lady Eagles also handed Mission its first road loss of the season.
Next, the Lady Eagles return to the floor on Thursday, Feb. 13 in Conway, Ark. against Central Baptist. Tip-off against the Mustangs is set for 5:30 p.m.
