WBU Claims AMC Title as Lady Eagles Cruise Past Missouri Baptist
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (2/15/25) – For the first time in program history, the Williams Baptist University women's basketball team has clinched a share of the American Midwest Conference regular season title after defeating Missouri Baptist by the final score of 91-69 on Saturday afternoon.
Carmen Taylor led the scoring charge with 31 points on 12-for-18 shooting from the field. Charmen Taylor followed with 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Kaylee Isaacs finished with a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
As a team, WBU went 33-for-73 (45.2 percent) from the field and knocked down 11-of-20 (55.0 percent) of three-point attempts. The Lady Eagles won the rebound battle 41-38 and scored 32 points on 22 Spartan turnovers.
Missouri Baptist started the game with a four-point swing and extended the lead to 9-4 halfway through the first quarter. WBU tied the game on a Carmen Taylor jumper and ended the period on a 12-2 run.
WBU outscored the Spartans 30-10 in the second quarter. Williams shot 52.9 percent from the floor led by 11 points from Charmen Taylor. The scoring outburst gave the Eagles a 53-23 advantage at halftime.
The Spartans outscored the Lady Eagles by six in the second half, but were unable to mount a comeback as WBU claimed its 18th consecutive victory.
The win moves WBU to 23-3 overall and 19-1 in AMC play. The win clinches a share of the AMC regular season title, with an opportunity to claim the outright title with a win in either of its final two games.
The Lady Eagles will return home for the first of its final two games of the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 20 against Hannibal-LaGrange. Tip-off against the Trojans is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
