Taylor’s Career Night Powers Eagles Past Trojans

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/20/25) – Carmen Taylor dropped a career high 37 points to lead the Williams Baptist University women's basketball team to a 104-52 win over Hannibal-LaGrange inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Thursday night.

Taylor's 37 points is the second most points scored in a single game in WBU history, tied with her teammate Kaylee Isaacs.  Taylor tops her previous career best of 35 against Ozarks set on Dec. 28, 2023.  Taylor also put up the second most FG made in a game, tying Taylor Freeman's mark against then Baptist Bible on Nov. 27, 2021.

Charmen Taylor followed up with 11 points on the night, and Taylyn Davis threw in 10 off the bench.  Isaacs led the team on the boards with six rebounds on the night.

The Lady Eagles were very efficient from the field in the win, going 41-for-79 (51.9 percent) from the floor and knocked down 11-of-22 (50.0 percent) of three-point attempts.  WBU won the rebound battle 42-27 and scored 49 points on 42 forced Trojan turnovers.

Williams set the tone early, out-scoring HLGU 33-6 in the first quarter.  The Lady Eagles tallied seven steals in the first quarter alone.

Though Hannibal found its footing on offense in the second quarter, WBU continued to add onto its lead in the second quarter to take a 55-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.

WBU remained in the driver's seat throughout the second half.  Two free throws from Seanlajah Smith pushed the Eagles over the century mark for the fifth time this season.

With the win, the Lady Eagles clinched the outright American Midwest Conference regular season title.  Williams will play host to the American Midwest Conference Tournament on Feb. 28-Mar. 3, and earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.

The Lady Eagles will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 22 against Cottey at home.  Tip-off against the Comets is set for 1 p.m., with Senior Day festivities to precede the game.
