Lady Eagles Drop Non-Conference Home Match to Lions

Williams Baptist scored a season-high three goals, but it was not enough as the Eagles fell to Freed-Hardeman 6-3 in their final non-conference tuneup Thursday afternoon at the WBU Soccer Field.

Livvie Campbell scored twice and Kenzie Hatman added to help lead the WBU offensive attack, but the Lions were able to outpace the home squad with three first half goals to create enough separation to keep the comeback at bay.

Down 4-0, Campell got Williams on the scoreboard in the 50th minute with a beautiful strike in front of the net to beat the goalkeeper to get within three goals. Nichole Craig assisted on the goal with a beautiful pass to get Campbell in position to beat the keeper. Freed-Hardeman responded with goals in the 53rd and 58th minutes to push the advantage to 6-1, but WBU refused to go away quietly.

Campbell struck again in the 63rd minute on a goal that was setup with a pristine passing from Stacy Hernandez and Kenzie Hatman to close the deficit to 6-2. Hatman scored in the 74th minute with an assist from Campbell to set the final at 6-3.

Freed-Hardeman outpaced WBU 22-10 in shots, but Kerrigan Kinsey made six saves in goal for the Eagles.

WBU will open American Midwest Conference play Saturday, Sept. 22 at home against Stephens. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
