WBU Plays Stephens College to a Draw

The Williams Baptist University women's soccer team battled Stephens College to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon at the WBU Soccer Field to open American Midwest Conference play.

Livvie Campbell gave the Eagles (0-7-1, 0-0-1) the lead in the 68th minute when she beat three defenders in the box and buried home a goal by Stars' goalkeeper Sophia Schafer-Ramos. It was the fifth goal of the season for Campbell and her fourth this week.

WBU withstood the offensive pressure from Stephens and clung to their lead despite a fury of shots from the Stars. WIth 25 seconds to go in the match Stephens was awarded a corner kick from the left side and she was able to bend the kick in with 16 seconds remaining to tie the match at 1-1.

Stephens had an opportunity to take the lead in the first half when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 31st minute, but the attempt was stopped by Kerrigan Kinsey for one of her season-high 20 saves in the match.

WBU returns to the pitch Saturday, Sept. 30 for a home matchup against Harris-Stowe. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
