WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (8/30/24) – The Williams Baptist University women's soccer team fell in its first home match of the 2024 season against Evangel University by the final score of 2-0.
The Lady Eagles started the game off strong with two shots on goal by Victoria de Abreu in the first ten minutes of the match, both saved by the Valor keeper.
Neither side was able to break through for a score in the first half despite seven combined shots on goal, sending the game into halftime in a 0-0 deadlock.
To start off the second half, WBU was able to keep Evangel off the board for a bit longer thanks to an amazing defensive effort from goalkeeper Lisa Craig and the Eagles defenders, stopping three shots on goal in the 54th minute.
The defensive magic did not last much longer for the Eagles, however, when Evangel struck for the first goal of the game in the 55th minute.
The Eagles failed to equalize, and the Valor were able to add an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to put the game out of reach for a 2-0 Eagles loss.
Lisa Craig played the first 70 minutes in goal for WBU, grabbing eight saves against nine shots on goal. Gracielee Edwards played the final 20 minutes, grabbing one more save on the day.
The Lady Eagles look to bounce back on Monday, Sept. 2 when they take on Mid-America Christian in Oklahoma City, Okla. Kick-off is scheduled for noon in the first half of a men's and women's doubleheader.
