Lady Eagles Drop Road Contest to Hornets

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (10/26/24) – The Williams Baptist University women's soccer team lost in the final minutes of the match in a 4-3 road loss to Harris-Stowe State in American Midwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

WBU put three of its five shots on goal, all finding the back of the net.

The Hornets struck first with a goal in the 16th minute of the match, then pushed the advantage to 2-0 in the 27th.  

WBU got on the board in the 32nd minute with Victoria de Abreu's program-best 14th goal of the year to send the Lady Eagles into halftime down one score.

Nichole Craig tied the match up out of the locker room with her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute, and Irene Cabanas Pena buried her third goal of the year in the 75th minute to put the Eagles up 3-2 late.

In the waning minutes of the match, Harris-Stowe was able to break through the Eagles defense for scores in the 88th and 89th minutes to take the 4-3 win.  

Lisa Craig played all 90 minutes in goal for WBU, securing seven saves.  

The loss drops WBU to 4-11-0 on the season and 2-4-0 in AMC play.  The Lady Eagles will conclude the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at home against Columbia.  Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. from the WBU Soccer Field.
