Alvarado Named AMC Player of the Year, Carney Tabbed AMC Coach of the Year
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/4/25) – Williams Baptist University women's soccer junior Yajaira Alvarado was named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Year, and head coach Daniel Carney earned AMC Coach of the Year honors as the league announced its postseason awards on Tuesday morning.
Alvarado was also named AMC Newcomer of the Year after a dominant 2025 campaign. The Jonesboro, Ark. native scored a league-leading 26 goals, setting new WBU single-season and career records in scoring along the way, while also leading the AMC in points (56), game-winning goals (7), and shots on goal (51) in 2025. She was also named to the AMC All-Conference First Team.
Valentina Marin was also named an AMC First Team All-Conference player at midfield. The Bogota, Colombia native dished out a league-leading 10 assists to earn the honor.
Nevaeh Larkins, Latavia Fletcher, Fabiana Quiros, and Makaiya Minner were named to the AMC All-Conference Second Team. Larkins led the league in saves with 95, and ranked third in the league with a 1.85 goals-against average. Fletcher and Quiros led a defensive back line that racked up five shutouts in the regular season, and Minner put up four goals and four assists up front for the Lady Eagles.
Finally, Daniel Carney became the first WBU women's soccer head coach to be named AMC Coach of the Year. Carney improved the Lady Eagles' win total from four in 2024 to a program-high 12 victories in 2025 en route to WBU's highest finish in the league table in program history.
The Lady Eagles will open their AMC Tournament run by hosting the winner of No. 3 Harris-Stowe and No.6 Hannibal-LaGrange on Friday, Nov. 7. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. from the WBU Soccer Field.
