Mittag Wins Javelin to Lead Strong Showing at Hendrix Invitational

CONWAY, Ark. (3/5/24) - Maddison Mittag earned a first place in the javelin throw and helped lead eight top-5 finishes for the Williams Baptist University track and field team at the Hendrix Invitational over the weekend.

Mittag won the javelin throw with a mark of 32.03m to claim her first overall title in the outdoor season. 

Allyson Harvey claimed a third finish in the triple jump with a jump of 10.25m and then set a personal best in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.10 for 15th place. Zaelin Morris was right behind her in 16th with a mark of 14.15. Kiasia Burns finished 18th (14.30). Burns also finished 10th (29.63) in the 200 meter dash, while Miracle Holmes was 19th (30.06).

The 4x100 meter relay team (Morris, Miracle Holmes, Harvey and Burns) finished third with a race of 53.40, while In the 800 meter run Mikey Larson finished 15th with a time of 2:32.37.

On the men's side, Karlis Smith was third in the pole vault with a leap of 3.05m, while Tucker Coleman earned a fifth place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.69m, a mark that also set a new school record. Ty Gramling also finished fifth in the long jump and set a new school record with a mark of 6.11m.

Calista Christian earned a fourth place finish with a personal best throw of 40.10m, while Kady Greer finished 12th and set a new personal record with a toss of 29.38m. In the discus throw, Christian was 18th (80-5.25), while Kreer was 19th (73.8.75). Christian also finished 18th (27.3.5) in the shot put, while Greer was 20th (26-8.5)

The men's 4x100 relay composed of Jason Detrick, Gramling, Ralph Iweriebor and Byron Lewis finished fourth with a time of 46.90.

In the long jump Burns took home a 13th place finish with a leap of 15-6.5. Marlow was 15th (14-10.75) and Morris was 17th (13-6.25).

In the men's discus, Coleman set a new school record with a toss of 40.26m, while Jacob Short finished 24th with a toss of 29.66 meters and Cody Carden was 28th (19.58). Carden also finished 12th (26.52m) in the hammer throw.

Short also finished 8th in the shot put (13.46m), while Coleman was 11th (12.6m) and Carden was 22nd (9.18m). Short was also 12th in the javelin throw (28.26m), while Ronald Hill was 13th (26.67m).

In the 100 meter dash Gramling was 28th (11.98), Lewis was 29th (11.99), Iweriebor was 30th (12.03) and Detrick was 35th (12.58). In the 200 meter dash Lewis finished 26th (24.56), Gramling was 29th (24.76), Detrick was 38th (26.12) and Hill was 39th (26.75).

In the 400 meter dash Lamont Evans was 17th (57.01), Detrick was 21st (1:00.40) and Logan Jackson was 23rd (1:00.96). Karlis Smith was 33rd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:33.87.

The team returns to action March 16 at the Central Methodist Open in Fayette, Mo.
