Lady Eagles Fall at Home to TAMUT

The Williams Baptist University volleyball team fell to Texas A&M Texarkana 25-17, 25-12, 25-14 on Tuesday night at the Southerland-Mabee Center.

The Eagles (0-6) were led in kills by Dayshia Espinosa and Tinleigh Ruhman ,who both had six on the day. Laykin Harkcom led the team in assists with 12, and Faith Raymond led the team in digs with six.

The first set was back and forth early in the set when the Eagles were able to take a 7-6 lead following a kill from Darcy Broglin.  TAMUT went up 9-7 but Alanna Deering got the Eagles back within one.

TAMUT then rolled off four straight points to force a WBU time out at 15-9, but it did little to stop the attack as they extended their lead to 21-11. The Lady Eagles put up a good fight at the end of the set with a three point run thanks to kills from Krista Jones and Dayshia Espinosa, as well as a service ace from Jones, but 24-17 would be the closest the Eagles would make it as they dropped the first set.

TAMUT got off to an early run in the second set, taking a 7-1 lead before forcing a WBU timeout. The Eagles would take a few points but Texarkana was able to extend its lead to 21-9 before another Eagles timeout. The set would end at the score of 25-12.

The third set was much the same story as TAMUT got out to a quick 7-0 lead before three straight attack errors brought the score to 7-3. That would be as close as the set got as Texarkana was able to rattle off two runs of three points a piece broken up by a Dayshia Espinosa kill.  Williams would drop the final set of the night 25-14 following a 5 point run from TAMUT.

The Eagles return to action Thursday, Sept. 14 at Baptist Bible. First serve is set for 6 p.m.

WBU is a private, Christian university in Walnut Ridge.
