WBU Volleyball Falls in Three Sets to No. 10 Columbia

The Williams Baptist University volleyball team lost its American Midwest Conference opener to No. 10 Columbia 25-8, 25-7, 25-8 Friday night at the Arena of Southwell Complex.

Williams struggled to find its rhythm on the offensive end, while the Cougars seemed to fire on all cylinders throughout the match. Faith Raymond posted 13 digs for the Eagles, while Laykin Harkcom added 12 assists. Dayshia Espinosa added six kills, while Hope Raymond and Tinleigh Ruhman had four each.

An 11-0 run by Columbia built a 15-4 edge in the first set as the Cougars got service aces on the final two points later on to close out the set and take a 1-0 advantage. In the second set the Cougars scored 10 consecutive points with Jordan Starkey on service to build a 20-5 edge that WBU could not recover from. In the final set, Columbia used an 8-0 to start the set to put Williams behind early and the Eagles could not find their footing on the offensive side to recover from the early deficit.

WBU returns to the courts Saturday, Sept. 23 for another AMC road contest against Stephens College. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
