WBU Volleyball Yields 3-0 Result to Stephens College

The Williams Baptist University volleyball team dropped an American Midwest Conference match to Stephens College 25-10, 25-14, 25-23 on Saturday afternoon at the Silverthrone Arena.

Hope Raymond led the Lady Eagles (2-9, 0-2) with seven kills and also added 12 digs. Faith Raymond led the squad with 12 digs, while Laykin Harkcom recorded nine assists.

Stephens used a 4-0 spurt in the first set to take a 14-8 and push the momentum to their side. The advantage grew to 20-9 as the Eagles struggled to find an offensive rhythm that suited them in the opening set. The Stars put the set away with back-to-back aces from Isabelle Benson and gained an early 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, WBU jumped out to an early 3-2 lead, but Stephens again went on the offensive attack and quickly built a 16-8 advantage that forced a timeout by the Lady Eagles. A Stephens attacking error and kill from Hope Raymond got Williams with 18-11, but the Stars responded with another flurry of points to close out the set and take a two set advantage.

The Lady Eagles responded in the third and had their best attacking set of the match to put the Stars on the heals. With the score tied at 18-18, Hope Raymond powered home a kill and a Stars attacking error gave WIlliams a two points edge.

Later with the Eagles up 22-20, Stephens tied the match with a kill and a WBU attack error, but Hope Raymond again put WBU out in front with a kill to go up 23-22. Stephens was able to collect itself, however, and got two kills and miscue from the Eagles to score the next three points and take the set and the match.

Williams returns to the court Monday, Sept. 25 for a non-conference toad matchup against Champions College. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
