CBC Edges WBU Volleyball in Three Sets

Williams Baptist University lost to Central Baptist College 25-17, 25-12, 25-16 in an American Midwest Conference matchup Friday evening at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse.

Alonna Thomas led the Eagles (4-11, 0-4) with 17 digs on the night, while Hope Raymond added 12 digs. Sophie Allred was also in double figures with 12 assists.

Williams began the third set on a 8-0 run and stole some of the momentum that the Mustangs had built after the first two sets. With Sophie Allred on serve and Tinleigh Ruhman's strong play at the net, the Eagles were able to stretch their lead to 11-6 midway through the set.

CBC rallied, however, and went on an 8-2 run to take the lead for the first time in the match. After trading points the Eagles got within 18-16, but CBC was able to close out the set and the match with a 7-0 run to complete the sweep.

Central Baptist College jumped out to a 12-3 edge in the first set and never looked back. The Mustangs collected 19 kills in the opening set and had a .250 attacking percentage, while the Eagles struggled to get CBC off serve.

CBC went on a 6-0 run to start the second and pushed the advantage to 18-3. Williams closed the gap with Sarah Hunter on serve with a 5-0 run, but CBC was able to close out the set to go up 2-0 in the match.

WBU will travel to Hawkins, Texas to take on Jarvis Christian in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Oct.  7. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
