WBU Volleyball Yields Result to Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. (10/28/23)  – The Williams Baptist University women's volleyball team lost to Freed-Hardeman 25-14, 25-22, 25-12, 25-11 Friday evening in a road American Midwest Conference contest.

Hope Raymond led the Eagles with 11 kills and also chipped in with 15 digs. Faith Raymond collected 17 digs, while Laykin Harkcom led the squad with 20 assists and added 12 digs.

The Eagles dropped the first set after falling behind early, but used a 7-0 run to start the second set to build an early advantage. FHU slowly fought its way back into the set and got within 14-12, but Hope Raymond put Williams back on track with a kill that helped her squad score four of the next five points.

Krista Jones' kill positioned Williams to take the set, but Freed-Hardeman went on another and closed to within 23-22, prompting a timeout from the Eagles.

Out of the timeout, Tinleigh Ruhman powered home a kill to setup set point and Hope Raymond put the set away with a kill on the next point to tie the match at 1-1.

WBU failed to carry that momentum into the third set, however and found itself trailing 18-11. FHU continued to put the offensive attack on the Eagles' defense and closed out the set by scoring seven of the final eight points to go up 2-1.

In the fourth and final set, Freed-Hardeman continued to take advantage of timely runs and went up 17-9. Williams struggled to find its way offensively and FHU took advantage with timely offensive attacks and key mistakes from WBU to take the final set.

Williams Baptist University returns home for its final two matches of the regular beginning Thursday, Nov. 2 against Missouri Baptist at 5 p.m. in the Southerland-Mabee Center.
