Eagles Down Tigers For First Win of the Season

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (8/22/24) – The Williams Baptist University volleyball team took down Champion Christian College for its first win of the season in Hot Springs on Tuesday night by the final score of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-19.

The Lady Eagles took control of the first set early.  Up 19-11, WBU struggled to put the Tigers away in the first set, allowing eight points before closing up the set 25-19.

In the second set, the Eagles used an 11-2 run to take an 18-8 lead.  The Eagles handled business in the second set by finishing it off 25-16 courtesy of a Champion attack error to go up 2-0.

Champion took control of the third set with a 5-1 run to take a 7-5 lead.  After that, Williams battled back, taking back the lead on a Faith Raymond service ace.

Raymond's ace provided the momentum WBU needed in the third, going on a 10-1 run to take a 15-8 lead in the third.

Jayla Weddington notched the game-winning kill to put the third set away 25-19 to give the Lady Eagles their first win of the year.

With the win, the Lady Eagles move up to 1-2.  WBU will continue the weekend road trip by heading down to Montgomery, Ala. for the Faulkner Invitational.  The team kicks off the tournament at 11 a.m. Friday morning against Keiser.
