Eagles Handle Bearcats in Road Matchup

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss.  (9/20/24) – The Williams Baptist University volleyball team handled business on the road against Rust College on Friday evening, as the squad took home a 3-0 win.

Natalie Collier paced the squad with 14 kills in the Friday winner.  Jaycie Cook led with 13 assists, and Riley Henson had 12 digs.

The Eagles showed dominance early in the match, taking the match's first eight points behind the strong serve of Faith Raymond.  The Eagles allowed only seven points from the Bearcats before ending the set on a 10-0 run to take a 25-7 win in the first set.

The second set told much of the same story, with the Eagles taking the first seven points of the set behind Jaycie Cook's serve.  Cook ended the set with a kill of her own to solidify a commanding 25-9 set win and a 2-0 series lead.

Rust refused to go away quietly in the third, matching Williams step for step in the early going.  After falling behind, a Lynsey Gordon service ace sparked a 7-0 Eagles run that gave WBU a 10-5 lead and forced a Rust timeout.  Rust continued to fight back, but a 6-0 Williams run punctuated by a Hope Raymond ace secured the set and the match for the Eagles.

Williams will be back in action at home on Saturday, September 21 against Freed-Hardeman.  The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
