WBU Takes Care of Hornets for Fourth Straight Win
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/2/24) – The Williams Baptist volleyball team took down Harris-Stowe State 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-18) for its fourth straight win on Saturday inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
As a team, the Eagles hit at a .146 clip and held Harris-Stowe to a mark of just .020. The Eagles offense shined bright in the first set, hitting .258 as a team.
Meadow Jones led the squad with nine kills on the afternoon on a .389 K%. Tinleigh Ruhman followed with seven kills on a .385 clip. Jones also tied with Darcy Broglin and Jaycie Cook for the team lead in blocks with two.
After a Ruhman kill tied the first set at 8-8, WBU took the lead and never looked back with a 9-3 run that forced a Hornet timeout. Ruhman clinched a 25-17 win in the first set with a kill.
Harris-Stowe kept it close in the second set, eventually grabbing an 18-16 lead on a kill from Jehireh Williams, but WBU never waivered. The Eagles took the lead back on a kill from Natalie Collier and forced a timeout after a Riley Henson ace. The Hornets pulled back within one after a kill from Trinity Edison, but Jones quelled HSSU's comeback hopes with a kill for a 25-23 set win.
After falling behind 7-5 in the third set, WBU took over with a 10-2 run behind the serves of Alonna Thomas and Jaycie Cook for a 15-9 lead. The Hornets got within five put did not come any closer, as Jones and Cook notched the final two kills to clinch the Eagles fourth straight win.
The win brings the Eagles to 9-17 overall and 4-5 in AMC play. The Eagles continue to eye the final spot in the AMC Tournament with two matches left to play, both at home.
WBU will begin its final push toward the postseason on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. against Cottey inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
