WBU broke away from Cottey in the first set with a 5-0 run after being tied 12-12 behind the strong serve of Jaycie Cook. A kill from Ruhman and a block by Ruhman and Natalie Collier on the next point forced the second Comets timeout. WBU kept the momentum and won the first set 25-17 on a Hope Raymond ace.
The Eagles rattled off eight straight points after falling behind 6-4 early in the second set behind the serve of Meadow Jones. Williams finished the set on a 9-1 run punctuated by a Weddington kill to handily take the second set 25-10.
Cottey took a 19-16 lead late in the third after an Eagle attack error, and looked poised to force a fourth set. Unwavering, the Eagles forced a Comet attack error to tie the set and finished out the match by taking the final seven points in a row to take a 25-20 win in the third set and a 3-0 win in the match.
The win moves the Eagles to 10-17 overall on the season and 5-5 in AMC play. The Eagles will finish out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8 against William Woods. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on the campus of Williams Baptist University.
