Eagles Fall to Stars in AMC Tournament
COLUMBIA, Mo. (11/12/24) – The Williams Baptist volleyball team saw its 2024 season come to a close after falling 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 26-24) to No. 3 Stephens in the quarterfinal round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament on Tuesday night.
Jayla Weddington led WBU with eight kills on the night with a .185 hit percentage. Meadow Jones followed with six on a .333 clip, while Tinleigh Ruhman led the squad at the net with three blocks.
Stephens took a 21-13 lead in the first set after a 9-3 run that it would not relinquish, taking the first set 25-16.
Williams failed to find offensive footing in the second, conceding a 9-1 run that gave the Stars a 19-7 lead. A kill from Lena Hunziker clinched the second set for Stephens at 25-11.
Down 20-15, Williams stormed back behind the serve of Faith Raymond to come within one point. After a kill from Jones brought the Eagles within one at 21-20, Stephens took three of the next four to force a match point situation up 24-21. WBU fought hard behind two aces from Alonna Thomas to tie the match at 24, but surrendered the final two points to fall 26-24 in the deciding set.
WBU finishes the season with a 10-19 overall record.
