Mitch Mathis was introduced as the Athletic Director at Williams Baptist University in August of 2024.
He also serves as the executive director of SHAPE Arkansas, a non-profit organization of teachers, researchers, college students and other professionals that network and advocate for physical education and health across the state. In this role, he acts as the liaison between the national association and state members, oversees the budget and secures sponsorships for two state conventions each year.
Before becoming the head of the WBU Athletic Department, Mathis served as an instructor at Arkansas State University for five years. Prior to his time in Jonesboro, he was the boys’ athletic coordinator at Clear Creek Independent School District in League City, Texas, where he taught health and fitness and teen leadership courses.
Before his time in Texas, Mathis was an instructor and advising coordinator for Arkansas State University from 2003 to 2014. During this time he also worked as the director for the Arkansas Juniors Volleyball Club from 2010 to 2013, and an administrator for the Arkansas Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance from 2009 to 2012.
Mathis received his bachelor’s degree in education with a focus on Physical Education/Heath and a master’s degree in Sport Management and Administration from Arkansas State University.
